S&P 500

indexvalue

A stock market index tracking 500 of the largest publicly traded companies in the United States.

The S&P 500 is weighted by market capitalization, meaning larger companies have more influence on the index value. It covers approximately 80% of available US market capitalization and is widely considered the best single gauge of large-cap US equities.

Dow Jones Industrial Average

indexvalue

A price-weighted index of 30 prominent US companies, one of the oldest stock indices.

Unlike the S&P 500, the Dow is price-weighted, meaning stocks with higher prices have more influence regardless of company size. It includes major companies like Apple, Microsoft, and Goldman Sachs.

VIX Volatility Index

indexvalue

A real-time index representing expected market volatility over the coming 30 days.

The VIX is calculated from S&P 500 option prices. Values below 20 generally indicate low volatility and investor complacency, while values above 30 indicate high volatility and market fear. It is often called the "fear gauge".
